What to do after a collision
- Stop and exchange details. You must stop and give your name and address, the vehicle owner's details and the vehicle registration number to anyone with reasonable grounds to ask. Read GOV.UK's collision requirements.
- Report it to the police where required. If you do not give your details at the scene, report the collision to the police as soon as reasonably practicable and within 24 hours. The GOV.UK page explains when a collision must be reported.
- Photograph the scene if it is safe. Record the vehicles, positions, road conditions and visible damage without putting yourself or anyone else at risk. See the GOV.UK information on road collisions.
- Notify your insurer. Tell your insurer about the collision, whether or not anyone appears to be at fault. Read the GOV.UK insurance requirements.
