Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8
The bike Remco rode to a Tour stage win, brought right down to consumer trim, still absurdly light and now more aero than the Venge ever was.

At a glance
- Ranking

Verdict
If money is genuinely no object, the SL8 is the fastest all-rounder on the market. It climbs like a pure lightweight and sprints like an aero bike, without compromise.
What we like
- Sub-6.9kg complete with pedals
- Meaningfully more aero than the SL7
- Handling is razor sharp without being nervous
What we don't
- Cost is beyond most mortals
- Proprietary cockpit limits fit adjustment
- Paint is easily marked by cable rub
Climbing
Even against the previous SL7, the SL8 feels lighter under acceleration. On a long UK climb like Hardknott it doesn't just feel like the bike wants to go up, it feels like it's helping you.
On the flat
Specialized quotes 16.6 seconds saved over 40km compared with the SL7. Whether or not you can feel that number, the bike is unquestionably quicker at 40kph than any Tarmac before it.
